 This Week in Social MediaThis week in social media brought many changes to top networks. Twitter now lets users send images through direct messages while unveiling a new app design for easier use. Facebook adds multiple images for ads while taking another step to compete with Snapchat through Instagram. Reddit changes its user agreements and Facebook tries to learn even more about its users. 

1. Twitter App Gets a Makeover

Twitter’s recent update allows users to send photos in direct messages to each other as well as unveiled a new way to stay connected. Easily swipe from Home timeline to the Discover timeline to find what’s trending and popular Tweets. Swipe to Activity timeline to see Tweets and accounts popular among those you follow.

How do these changes affect you?

If someone doesn’t follow you, they more than likely won’t see your Tweets with the recent changes. It’s time to get in front of them with engaging Tweets, join in what’s trending, or even create a hashtag to get the ball rolling.

2. Facebook Testing Multiple Photos in Ads

AlbumAds2AllFacebook reports that some users have begun seeing right sidebar ads with multiple pictures to scroll through – an album up to five photos.

How can you take advantage of this?

AlbumAds1Images create 50% more interaction than text, having multiple images in a single ad gives you the opportunity to share more information to the viewer without reading text. Next time you create an ad, give it a shot to see if it works.

3. Instagram Direct Competes with Snapchat

Instagram’s latest update introduces Instagram Direct – a way to send a photo to a group of people or just one.

Why does this matter?

When Snapchat turned down Facebook’s 3 billion dollar offer, Instagram Direct made its debut. At the moment, Instagram Direct is not recognized as a potential marketing tool. With its growing popularity, businesses should be active on Instagram to stay in touch with consumers.

4. Reddit Gaining Power of Your Content

A recent change in the Reddit user agreement gives them control over anything posted. Read from the revised agreement:

 By submitting User Content to reddit, you grant us a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, unrestricted, worldwide license to reproduce, prepare derivative works, distribute copies, perform, or publicly display your User Content in any medium and for any purpose, including commercial purposes, and to authorize others to do so.

What does this mean?

If you’re a Reddit user, just be aware that anything you post can be taken and used. Stated above, non-exclusive implies anything a photographer, artist, etc. posts is fair game. 

5. Life Events on Facebook

Recently, Facebook has been prompting users to add Life Events to their timelines such as “bought a car,” “bought a new house,” etc.

Facebook has been making it easier to target particular people on Facebook based on interests and other categories. These life moments continue to provide more information about users – making them even easier to target for Facebook ads.
