It was a big week for social media – Facebook now has clickable hashtags! Learn about the latest news, updates, tips, and additions to networks in this weekly recap. Make sure to stop by our blog every Friday for all the latest info on changes in social media.

1) Hashtags Are Now Clickable on Facebook

Hashtags – which originated on Twitter and are a way to track popular topics and content through the hashtag sign (#) – became clickable on Facebook on Wednesday. Facebook said this is just the first step in making it easier for Facebook users to discover conversations about popular topics on this network. Clicking a hashtag on Facebook will now bring users to feeds of posts by other users and pages discussing that topic. Users can search for hashtags in Facebook’s search bar, follow hashtags, and compose their own posts containing hashtags.

2) Twitter Launches #FollowMe Video Tool

Twitter just partnered up with Vizify to launch #FollowMe – a video tool that lets Twitter users instantly create an animated version of their profile. Every shareable movie shows the user’s top tweets, photos, followers, and more, with a soundtrack that is pulled from a catalogue of over 1 million songs from Rumblefish. According to Vizify CEO Todd Silverstein,

Vizify analyzes, organizes and digitizes the words you talk about most on Twitter.

You can make your own #FollowMe video by going to Vizify.com and creating a profile, granting third-party app access, and edit it as you see fit.

BlackBerry users can now download a new Facebook update that brings a redesigned News Feed, plus several improvements for viewing and uploading photos from their mobile phone. Users can now create albums, upload photos to a specific album, enable tagging in existing photos, easily view photos, and more. There’s also a new News Feed design that’s easier to navigate. 4) Twitter Advertising and Free Analytics Now Available for Everyone

Twitter’s self-service advertising platform is now accessible to all users. Twitter users can get free access to their Twitter Analytics dashboard, which includes a number of metrics about account performance and data. It includes Timeline Activity, tracking of your most favorited/retweeted/replied to tweets, and also breaks down your Twitter followers into different demographics (gender, location, etc).

Twitter’s ad platform used to be only available to businesses, but it is now available to any and all users. To get these new features, log into your Twitter account and choose Twitter Ads off of the cog icon on the top-right of the screen.
