- Facebook Reports Strong Q3 – User numbers continue to rise (12%) and revenue is up. The boycott doesn’t appear to impact revenue and negative PR isn’t keeping people off the platform.
- Facebook Launches Buy Black Friday – To help small businesses and specifically minority and black owned businesses. Qualifying business can be featured and access other promotional opportunities.
- Facebook Drops WordPress Embeds – Facebook will no longer support embedded content from Facebook or Instagram. This will retroactively impact any content you have on your site. If you regularly include embedded content, you’ll need to create an app and use the API.
- Messenger Gets a Reboot – Facebook rebranded Messenger (note the color change in the app) and added new features to make it easier for people to connect. Video chat, hop into a room, share videos across both Facebook and Instagram messenger.
LinkedIn News Updates
- LinkedIn Shows HUGE Member Growth and Engagement – In their quarterly report they show 722 Million users and a 31% increase in engagement. Advertising is also up to pre-pandemic levels.
- Video Meetings Integrated into LinkedIn Messaging – You can now start messaging via Teams, Zoom or Bluejeans right in LinkedIn making it easier to “hop on a call” and connect.
- LinkedIn Events New Features – In an effort to promote events more, you can now download attendee lists to send emails.
Instagram Updates
- Live Gets New Features – Instagram Lives can now be up to 4 hours (previously 1) and you can archive the Live for 30 days. This makes it a more robust platform for more businesses.
Twitter Updates
- Turn your WordPress Post into a Tweetstorm – Already unpopular with users, this new functionality allows you to automatically turn a blog post into broken-up tweets. Easily share your blog post completely on Twitter.
- Twitter Quarterly Results – Revenue is up but users are flat as Twitter struggles to maintain relevance.
Google News Updates
- Google Launches New Analytics – You’ll definitely notice the facelift and you may need to update your tracking code. The new Analytics includes more AI built in to help you better understand conversions, traffic and more. Search Engine Journal has a great breakdown on the new features.
- Google Switching to Mobile First in March – This means that any desk top only content won’t be indexed. NOW IS THE TIME to get your website mobile first or you won’t get indexed by Google.

- What’s App Launches More Business Features – Because of the private messaging expectations, What’s App has backed off placing ads in the content. Instead they are launching new business features (look to India as a leading market here). They are focusing on Shopping, payments and customer service for businesses.
- 400,000 Articles Analyzes and Here are the Results – Interestingly Facebook is the best place for engagements and “likable” content does best.
- Deloitte Shares 7 Trends in Digital – Check out the top trends from their research – from transformation to talent development.
- US Justice Department Files Complaint Against Google – The complaint is for monopolistic behavior. It may be interesting to see where it goes. Social networks have also come under fire for the way they determine, flag and censor fake news. It will be interesting to see if more legislation and oversight are on the way.
