July 2020 Digital Marketing News Updates: TikTok Business Platform, Facebook Tests Emails, and LinkedIn Ad Retargeting

Facebook News Updates

• Businesses can Respond in Messenger App – Businesses will be able to use the same Facebook Messenger App they use personally to respond to business messages.
• Facebook Launches News Section in the US – This allows users to see news from national and local sources in one place.
• Facebook Test Emails – Allowing businesses to upload email lists and send emails. This is still under testing, but interesting to look for.

LinkedIn News Updates

• LinkedIn Launches New Ad Retargeting Tools – This feature for advertisers allows them to retarget people who have engaged with video or lead forms.
• LinkedIn Launches Playbook for Virtual Events – After launching a virtual events platform LinkedIn offers businesses a playbook to effectively run a virtual event through LinkedIn.

Twitter News Updates

• Twitter Test Voice Tweets – Currently in testing users can send audio Tweets.
• Twitter Creates Prompt if You Haven’t Read the Article – Encouraging users to share content they’ve read, you’ll receive a prompt if you retweet something without clicking the link.
• Twitter Allows Scheduling Tweets from Webapp – You can now schedule directly in Twitter.

TikTok + Snapchat Updates

• TikTok Launches Business Platform – This shows the platform is open for business with an advertising platform and a home base for their advertising and marketing programs.
• SnapChat Launches Ads Certification Program – Formalizing a training program for advertisers and allowing them to get certified.
• SnapChat Launches Minis – These are essentially apps inside the app that allow app developers to create lightweight apps within the Snapchat platform. This can include simple games or even content partners.

Search News Updates

• Google Launches Keen to Pin Content – Google announced the launch of the Keen app which is similar to Pinterest. It creates visual boards where users can track their interests.
• Google Launches Text Fragment Links – Allowing users to link to content within a page that will then be highlighted. This allows for linking to content within a page.
• Safari will NOT block Google Analytics Data – Many industry news sites falsely reported that Safari will block analytics data. This isn’t the case.

YouTube Updates

• YouTube Launches New Reports – Giving creators more data and also better information about merchandise sales in the platform.
• YouTube Launches Chapters – So users can skip to a specific part of “chapter” of a video.

Digital Industry News

• Microsoft Launches Business Center – A one-stop hub for SMBs to manage their digital presence. This includes scheduling social media content and managing multiple ads all from one place.
• Spotify Launches Self-Serve Video Ads – Allowing advertisers to place ads automatically on the system.
