I posted this on Facebook a few days ago and it received a variety of comments, so I thought that it might make for interesting discourse on our blog. There are no clear-cut answers about how companies should respond to potential issues on social media, and there were some differing opinions on my Facebook post, so I thought I’d let you weigh-in.
A quick look at the comments shows that a number of people thought it was insensitive for them to leave the post up. While it appears to generally be acknowledged that the post was initially innocent, but turned out to be poorly timed, Pepsi seems to have ignored the potential issue.
So, here is the question for you….. what do you think Pepsi should do? Should they leave up the post? Take it down? Add a post apologizing? Something else?

I think it is a silly topic of discussion. Instead of focusing energy on things like Pepsi and what they posted, which was by the way harmless and was meant to be a joke, people should be figuring out how they can help the victims of the Colorado Shooting. Lets take a moment and reflect on how completely ridiculous it is to be thinking about what Pepsi posted BEFORE an event they had no control over.
I really don’t feel that it is necessary for Pepsi to remove the post – only because it was posted before the terrible events happened in Colorado. I do think they should update something in the comments and make a separate post, but don’t think they need to remove the post altogether. They can use it as a way to reach out to the community.
