Hottest Jobs In Social Media

Social media, internet marketing and digital marketing are the most popular trends in the world of marketing right now.  Companies now understand the importance of social media and online community in building brand recognition and influencing the buying decisions of their clients. With this understanding there is a huge demand for specialists who are familiar with digital technologies, content writing, social media marketing and engaging online audiences.  Many organizations are currently in need of a social media manager, social media strategist or online marketing specialist. Research shows that the demand for social media and online jobs has not peaked.  More growth is yet to come!  According to AdAge, digital is the new mainstream media and with that said, ‘U.S. employment at digital-media ventures is on track to pass employment in broadcast TV and in magazines by early 2012′.

Another study made by the online career community CareerBliss reveals the Top 10 Hottest Jobs for Social Media.  The number one ranking position is Content Manager with more than 1,500 job openings and an average salary of more than $59,000 a year.

With Facebook reaching 800 million users and Twitter having more than 200 million accounts, it’s no wonder companies are so eager to reach social media users.  As social media jobs continue to increase in number, they are becoming the bright spot in a job market that brings more bad news than good these days.

Labor reductions, austerity measures and debt crises abound, the demand for social media jobs represents an opportunity for professionals to be optimistic about their future careers.   Honing the latest social media skills and matching oneself with the right company in need of social media help looks likely to be a path to job security for many professionals for a many years to come.

Announcing My New Book – The Social Media Field Guide!

Boot Camp Digital is starting off the New Year right!  I’m excited to announce the release of my new book “Social Media Field Guide” as it hits Amazon.com and will soon hit the shelves at select bookstores!  Many of you probably know that I have been working on this book for quite a while now and I am THRILLED that it is finally done and available to order.

This is my first book, and it is actually being modified and turned into a textbook for social media marketing.  I have so many people to thank for helping me get here, and later this week I will post an entire Thank-You post.  I can’t tell you how much I value and appreciate all of the support and encouragement I have received over the past few years as I started my business.

I wrote the Field Guide after I started running social media training programs a few years ago, and after training thousands of people I created some systems to help explain and create a system for social media strategic planning and to help businesses understand the social media landscape, which can be overwhelming.

Part 1: The Social Media Planning System

I created the social media system, which is the underlying model for the book based on working with many companies and individuals on their social media marketing strategies.  One thing I learned was that most business owners lacked a real solid social media plan.  They weren’t getting results from their social media marketing because they didn’t really approach it with a plan.  Someone told them they had to get on Twitter or that all of their competitors were on Facebook, so they created accounts and started posting content.  They came to me because they weren’t getting results.

The Social Media System is a planning method that helps businesses get results by laying out a strategic plan.  This is the part that most businesses skip in their rush to get on social media and it is also why most businesses don’t get value from social media.  They have no real plan – they just throw stuff out there without a real audience in mind.

Part 2: The Social Media Field Guide – The Landscape

The second part of the Social Media Field Guide is the Field Guide model, which is a model to help businesses wrap their heads around the key opportunity areas in social media.  Rather than tactically focusing on the social media tools like Facebook and Twitter the Field Guide encourages businesses to think about the broader functionality of social media.  The Social Media Field Guide categorizes social media into 8 categories – Publishing, Sharing, Social Networks, Microblogs, Collaboration and Co-Creation, Discussion and Review, Public Relations and Mobile.  Rather than focusing on an individual tool, businesses should think about how they can leverage each of these categories, and then drill deeper into the specific tools.

In addition to the book, the Social Media Field Guide also comes with a FREE ACTION PLANNER DOWNLOAD so that you can put the Field Guide into action.

In the past 10 years of , I’ve traveled to Brazil, Vegas, NY, San Francisco, London, Toronto and countless other cities where I’ve had the pleasure of speaking to thousands of business owners, marketers and social media managers.  These experiences have helped me in creating this essential resourceful media guide full of great tips and advice.  It also served as a great tool used in my social media certification program held at the newly established Institute for Social Media at Cincinnati State.

I’ve already received some great feedback about the book and I would like to hear what you think!  Click here to order your copy of the Social Media Field Guide.

Also, stay tuned for the official announcement, but I will be hosting a book party and showcasing my new office space on January 20th.

Register Now (before it sells out) for Social Media Certification from the Institute for Social Media at Cincinnati State

Back in November I posted about a new program that I launched with Cincinnati State – A social media certification program from the Institute for Social Media at Cincinnati State.  (Check out the website for all of the details)

The certification program is a 3 day intensive social media course that covers the social media plan building, execution and advanced social media topics.

Through the program students create an actual social media plan that they are ready to execute.  The program includes in-class instruction, real-world application, creation of social media assets, building a social media plan and testing.

We did the first session of the program in December and it was a big hit.  The first class was a sell-out (YAY!!!) and the feedback from the participants was amazing!

“Krista Neher’s disciplined yet entertaining social media boot camp training literally ‘engaged’ me to construct a 40+ page marketing launch plan. I will be able to take action immediately through both established and my newly-created social media real estate. I highly recommend Cincinnati State’s Institute for Social Media to recharge any seasoned marketing professional’s engines or set the course for any business looking to socialize their message.”

Announcing my Partnership with the Institute for Social Media at Cincinnati State

I am pleased to announce that I am working with Cincinnati State on The Institute for Social Media.  The goal of the Institute is to provide businesses and individuals with a comprehensive understanding of social media.

The Institute was launched in conjunction with O’Keeffe PR and we have an awesome advisory board of respected industry experts who are helping to guide the Institute.  My role in this partnership is to create and run the curriculum and I am the Managing Director of the Institute (I probably need to update my Linkedin with this ;-) ).

This program is a certification program, which is different than many of the social media presentations you may see.  Specifically, to attain the certificate the participants will have to attend the program, pass tests to demonstrate their knowledge and demonstrate an application of strategic social media.  This means that they will have to actually create social media assets and explain how they fit within an underlying strategic framework for the business.

I personally am really excited about this launch.  There is so much interest in social media marketing and I am really excited to be able to help raise the education level of professionals who are interested in this space.  This longer format training will allow us to go into real depth on social media marketing topics.

The program is 3 full days, and the first session runs on December 1, 7 and 15.  We are also planning dates for Jan and Feb that will be released soon.  Many certification programs cost $3,000 – $5,000 As a special offer, since December is the first program the program is discounted to $1,297 – a $500 discount.  Other programs will run at the regular rate of $1797.

There has already been a lot of interest and excitement about this (see the article in Soap Box and on examiner.com).  Please drop me a line if you have any questions!
