At Boot Camp Digital we’ve been providing training for years on social media marketing.  With the ease of technology, many companies ask us whether their training program should be in person, on demand online or webinar based.

The reality is that there isn’t a single answer – there are a number of factors that influence which type of training works best for your organization.  Factors to consider in building your training program include:

  • Budget
  • Time
  • Learning Objectives
  • Size of Team
  • Continuing Options
  • Continuity
  • Frequency

After you’ve assessed your organization, the next step is to understand the learning objectives and what is required to deliver against them.  The learning objectives identify what the desired outcome is from the training.  Depending on your specific objectives, different types of training may be called for.

Long Format Level-Set Training

This is where 95% of our clients start – some sort of longer-format training program to bring everyone to the same knowledge level in social media marketing.  This typically includes a full day or multi-day in-depth training program focused on a wide variety of social media strategy and tactical topics.

Going Training

Many organizations do only a level-set training and assume that their job is done.  Social media is different than learning an accounting or technical system where participants learn something and apply it.

Social media is constantly changing, and knowledge in social media can extend from basic (I know the sites and how they work) to a deep understanding of how they work and how businesses can use them.

Social media requires some intuition, and it also changes quickly.  It isn’t as simple as a few rules outlining what it is and how it works.

For this reason, most organizations should consider some form of going training as well.

On-Demand Training

On-demand training helps round out a social media training program by ensuring that participants can access the most up-to-date information at the exact time that it is relevant to them.

Our Online Social Media Training Boot Camp is extremely popular for this exact reason.  Participants can access the exact training modules right when they need them.  Many of our Online Boot Camp attendees also attend our live training programs so they can get the benefit of in-person instruction and interaction, but still have access to the finer details of the training when they are ready to implement.

What is Right for You?

When it comes to your organization, it is important to assess the factors outlined above to determine what type of training is best for you.

A word of caution: Be sure to include some form of going training to get the most from your level-set.
